The scientific investigations made on various agricultural
products have found the presence of many toxic substances at lethal levels
to human life. During the early seventies Indian farmers adopted high
yielding varieties, hybrids, fertilizers and pesticides to augment the
food production to feed the population and as well achieve self reliance
in the food production. In recent years around the world it has become
trend now to go in for consumption of organic foods. Hence, the policy
makers at highest level have started encouraging the production of food,
which is safe and fit for consumption. In this regard the state of Karnataka
remained the first state in India to have its own organic farming policy.
In this regard both department of agriculture and horticulture are actively
in promoting organic farming.
