Why Organic?
Having witnessed the various side effects of chemical fertilizers, thousands of farmers are seeking eco friendly agricultural methods. Seizing the opportunity, several companies posing as eco friendly are ready to exploit the innocent farmers, who are on the threshold of Organic farming. The so-called agriculture consultants, who do not know the basics of organic farming are already lecturing about the new trend. What will happen to the farmers who are in the iron grip of these people?

Organic Farming Policy Of Government Of Karnataka
The state of Karnataka is first state India to introduce Organic Farming Policy. In this regard the government has taken initiation to bring 100 heaters of land under organic farming in every district. The government is also thinking to extend this to every taluk. The programme of government has the prime objective to reduce dependency of farmers on external agencies with regard to inputs required for farm production. The government is encouraging the farmers participation in the programme by generously extending subsidies to set up vermicompost pits, for conducting training programmes on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Bewalli has 93 farmers engaged in organic farming.

Bewalli Tank Management Institute
The Tank Management Institute which brought revolutionary changes in the life of Bewalli is the result of intervention by Prakruthi a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) working in this region. They motivated us to come together and register a society. There after through Participatory Rural Appraisal we developed a project to undertake holistic development of the tank. An executive committee has been formed and the committee meets on every Sunday.

Budget
Koundinya Organic Farming Initiative (KOFI) Village Bevinhalli, Mulbagal Taluk, Kolar District has prepared a budget for the year 2006-2007.
The total estimate is Rs. 14,07,962/- out of that farmers share will be Rs. 6,09,979/- and government assistance will be Rs. 7,97,963/-
